Period 2 8:10 - 9:05 Jazz Ensemble I - II Performance class with jazz band techniques.
Period 3 9:10 - 9:55 Instrumental Tech. / Eurhythmics Individual skill building with emphasis on mastery.
Plan 9:50 - 10:20 Metzner Planning No class scheduled; teacher planning.
Travel 10:25 - 10:55 Metzner travels to OHMS Travel time necessary to arrive at OHMS.
Plan 11:00 - 11:20 Metzner Planning No class scheduled; teacher planning.
Period 3 11:20 - 11:35 OHMS: SSR for entire school Silent Sustained Reading during 3rd Period.
Period 3 11:35 - 12:18 OHMS: Band 1 Beginning Band class: Band FUNdamentals.
Period 4 12:21 - 1:40 OHMS: Lunch & Band 2 Beginning Band class: Band FUNdamentals.
Period 5 1:43 - 2:26 OHMS: Band 3 Mixed Band class: Reinforcement of Band Skills.
Travel 2:35 - 2:55 Metzner travels back to RHS Travel time necessary to arrive back at RHS.

2008 - 2009 Instrumental Music Course Descriptions

Band I - V

Class emphasis will be on the study and performance of literature written for the modern concert band and marching band. Prerequisite for the course is general proficiency playing a wind, or percussion instrument, which is part of the traditional ensemble instrumentation.  Audition MAY be required in order to address individual student need and placement in correct ensemble/class.  Topics to include: A variety of literature in various musical styles, Sight Reading skills and Ensemble Techniques.

 

At the conclusion of the course, the student will be able to demonstrate improvements in the following musical performance skills:

  • Intonation sensitivity

  • The ability to blend within the ensemble

  • Knowledge of phrasing within a musical style

  • Sensitivity to balance

  • Control of tonal quality

  • Control of articulation

  • Control of dynamics

  • Rhythm accuracy

  • Improvement of technique

  • Stage deportment

  • Concert conduct
